Oprah has become an advocate for families with autism as she has featured famous stars and authors discussing this difficult subject.
Autism is a neurological disorder that affects the function of the brain. Most people with autism live in a private world and have difficulty communicating. Thomas McKean is one of the few autistic people who learned how to communicate verbally how he feels. "Joy, sorrow, happiness, pain, anger, frustration are emotions that we have every day. [People with autism] feel just like the rest of us do."
Tom's book is called Soon Will Come the Light.

Her parents, Roy Richard Grinker, a cultural anthropologist, and his wife, Joyce Chung, a psychiatrist, knew something was wrong. Eventually, the doctors diagnosed Isabel with autism, then viewed as a rare mental disorder.
